Youth Navigators are those familiar with SPA areas and have lived experience in the community. They will be compensated with a $60 e-gift card for 4 hours of Youth Navigator work. They will lead the engagement and be the warm handoff between the youth being surveyed and the survey team.

The Role: Approach and Engage

Approach: We should approach ALL young people who appear to be under the age of 25, including TAY youth from 18-25, unaccompanied minors, and young families. At this stage, we are not judging or assessing their housing status, but merely attempting to engage that young person to see if they are interested in participating in the Youth Count Survey.

Engage:

✓ Explain to them who you are

✓ What the survey is about

✓ How long the survey will take (5-10  minutes)

✓ That there are eligibility questions that determine whether they qualify to take the survey.

✓ What compensation they will receive if they qualify: $7 gift card for answering screening questions, and an additional $7 for completing the survey if eligible).

“Hi, My name is , I'm from and we were wondering if you know where we could find young people in this area. We are surveying young persons about their housing experience or experiences with homelessness so that we can better understand the size and scope of youth homelessness in Los Angeles and help prevent and end it. If you are interested, you will get a $7 gift card just to see if you are eligible.

If the participant is interested to see if they are eligible to take the survey, provide a warm hand-off to a surveyor on your team.

Important Reminders:

→ Mention they will receive a gift card for answering the eligibility questions, regardless of their specific housing situation

→ All the information that they disclose is confidential.

→ They can skip any question that they feel uncomfortable answering or stop at any time.

→ YOUTH NAVIGATORS WILL NOT BE CONDUCTING SURVEYS.
